Alleviation of muscle soreness

Editor: | 10. December 2018

Alleviation of muscle soreness in biceps with low-frequency pulsed magnetic fields was tested on 30 university students in South Korean Seoul by research team of Hye-Seon Jeon (2015).

All 30 men underwent initial examination followed by specific exercises which have proportionately overloaded and strained their biceps. Such an excessive weight usually results in at least three days of muscle fever which is accompanied by problematic stretching and straightening of the arm.

Immediately after the induction of delayed-onset muscle soreness volunteers were divided into two groups. In the experimental group, low-frequency pulsed magnetic therapy was applied three times (after the exercise, then after 24 hours and finally after 48 hours) for ten minutes to the most painful area of the muscle. The control group followed the same procedure, but with a fake device.

Muscle fever was reported to be worst between the first and second day after the workouts and then it started to decrease.

The results showed that pulsed magnetic therapy in the experimental group significantly reduced physiological problems caused by delayed onset of muscle soreness.

Low-frequency pulsed magnetic therapy in other words significantly alleviates symptoms of muscle fever and stiffness.
